As a Detroit wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless beautiful weddings across this incredible city. Detroit is home to some of the most iconic, stunning and unique wedding venues, each with its own character and charm. From industrial chic to classic elegance, there’s a venue for every couples aesthetic. In this blog, I’m sharing my top 3 favorite Detroit wedding venues—each one offering something truly special for couples looking to make their big day unforgettable.
Why It’s Great for Weddings:
The Book Tower is a photographers dream with it’s one of a kind skyline views of Detroit. It’s ballroom is capped by a glass skylight allowing tons of natural light to filter in. The space itself is full of plants giving such a fresh and lived in feel.
Photography Tip:
The venue itself offers close proximity to some of Detroit’s most iconic hotels, allowing for your guest to be just a walk away. The getting ready space has its own rooftop, right below the Kampers rooftop allowing the same skyline views and lots of natural light. The outside of the Book Tower is just as stunning as the inside with its grand architecture. My favorite spots for portraits included the second floor of the venue, the skyline from the rooftop bar as well as the bar itself!
3. The Shinola
Why It’s Great for Weddings:
“The Shinola is one of the most iconic hotels in the heart of Detroit’s downtown area. Ranked as one of Detroit’s top hotels and wedding venues its the perfect backdrop for your wedding. If you love high ceilings, high end service and everything Detroit this is the venue for you! With its access to Parkers alley and views on Woodward the photo options are endless.”
Photography Tip:
The luxury hotel rooms that the Shinola offers are the perfect backdrop for beautiful getting ready images. Most of the bridal suites offer access to a beautiful terrace lined with greenery. The photo opportunities are endless at the Shinola with access to the glass dome, stunning iconic hallway with natural light and checkered floors and terrace views of downtown.
Why It’s Great for Weddings:
“The Colony Club is a hidden treasure in Detroit’s downtown area. Its elegant and timeless interior features high ceilings, beautiful wood paneling, and crystal chandeliers that create a luxurious, intimate atmosphere. It’s perfect for couples who want a venue with history, charm, and sophistication. From the ornate architecture to the inviting space, every corner of this venue is a photographer’s dream.”
Photography Tip:
The venue itself offers close proximity to some of Detroit’s most iconic hotels, perfect for getting ready spaces. The Colony Club also offers access to Woodward where bridal portraits can take place on street level in front of places like the Fox Theatre or CoAmerica Park. It’s also just a short ride away from everyones favorites like the Detroit Arts Institute or the Detroit Public Library. As far as photos inside the venue itself goes I have a couple favorites that really showcase the beauty of the venue itself. My first spot is the bar downstairs, such a cute cozy spot with perfect photo opportunities. I absolutely love the grand staircase leading up to the venue, with the black & white checked floor and old world feel its the perfect aesthetic for those looking for a timeless Hollywood feel. Another favorite is the balcony looking over the grand ballroom, the wall scones and chandeliers are some of my favorite things about the Colony Club itself.
